Windows 8.1: Solution of Blue Screen of Death problem

The BSOD is a fabled Windows favorite and one that has plagued every version of Microsoft’s OS, as well as producing a plethora of jokes from the tech support community. This is especially the case with Windows 8, as the screen is now a lot ‘friendlier’ than it has been in the past.
There are many reasons for this problem to occur but perhaps the most common message that accompanies the blue screen is the dreaded “DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.” Effectively this message is informing users that Windows has crashed due to a problem with a driver.
If you read the additional text that appears with this message you may be able to determine what driver is causing the issue. However, since the PC will automatically restart when the message appears you may not manage to read it all in time, you can find the BSOD error dumps and check there.

Linux: Total problems with solutions.

These are some various linux/unix problems I've encountered over the years, but which I was not able to find a solution for online. Hopefully this will save you the trouble I had.

Problem:
Network interface (or anything else on the pci bus) says "SIOCSIFFLAGS: Resource temporarily unavailable"
Cause:
No IRQ assigned to the device, check /proc/pci (irq says 0)
Solution:
Enter the bios setup (F1 or Del on boot), disable the option 'Plug n Play OS'.
Reason:
This will make your bios set up IRQs for you.
Problem:
USB mouse using /dev/psaux, the ps/2 mouse device.
Cause:
Bios usb legacy support in action, probably because Linux didn't probe for USB devices (which causes the bios to release control of them).
Solution:
Compile the kernel with USB support, Input Core and USB HID.

1. After retyping your password very carefully at least twice to make sure you just didn’t mistype it, you’ll need to haul out your OS X install disk,
2. Insert it into your Mac and restart holding down the C button.
